The history of agriculture in the north of Rio Grande do Sul shows that this territory had an intense process of colonization, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Currently, this region is characterized by the predominant presence of family farmers. The colonization process of this large territory presents heterogeneities, revealing the existence of peripheral places, typical of a late occupation process. The objective of the article is to analyze the dynamics of agriculture in a peripheral region of Rio Grande do Sul, within the Northwest region.
